The present paper analyzes the content structure of both the Yogacaryabhumi and the Hsien-yang sheng-chiao lun and shows that the original Pen-ti fen revolves around the theory and practice of the Agamas. When Asanga later compiled the Bodhisattvabhumi, he put equal emphasis on the hearer and the bodhisattva. But when he composed the Hsien-yang sheng-chiao lun, he concentrated on the bodhisattva. The process in which Asanga compiled the Yogacaryabhumi and the Hsien-yang sheng-chiao lun is assessed on the basis of divergent teachings in the Yogacaryabhumi itself.
