Abstract二十世紀初,日本學者舟橋水哉、松本文三郎、望月信亨和村上專精等人從考證入手,著文否認《大乘起信論》為馬鳴所造。在中國,國學大師章太炎最早撰文〈大乘起信論辨〉,認為此論係馬鳴所撰,時間在龍樹以前所出。繼之,我國著名的國學大師梁啟超著文〈大乘起信論考證〉,不同意這種說法,以為中國所撰。而且還認為,不僅《起信論》是假,而且前面智愷所作的序也是假的,唐代重譯《起信論》也靠不住。「一旦忽證明其出於我先民之手,吾之歡喜勇躍乃不可言矣」。其後,楊仁山的繼承者,支那內學院的創始人歐陽竟無先生對《大乘起信論》提出了疑問,認為這一部被歷代佛教徒奉為經典之作的最有代表性著作,僅是一部小乘的論書,它並不能代表大乘佛學了義教的真正水平。他說:「則知《起信論》之所以謬,則知凡根據於《起信》而立教之謬也。」其根據是:《起信論》不立正智為本,執「真如緣起」為實,因之是謬。這是以唯識思想來判別《起信論》不合佛理。......
