| Abstract | 《證道歌》為六祖弟子永嘉玄覺之作。因其中提及西天二十八祖和六代傳衣，致使懷疑二十八祖說的學者，如胡適等，進而懷疑《證道歌》的可靠性。今日學者多盲從胡氏，以為《證道歌》曾經後人增減。對有些研究者因《永嘉集》中未收《證道歌》，而認定《證道歌》為偽作的看法，及兩者之所以在思想上距離很大的原因，本文從歷史性的觀念來提出己見。通過對相關史料的梳理，可發現：恰是《證道歌》提供了二十八代說晚出的結論，不成立的證據，這在天臺一系等相關史料中，也得到有力支援。由此可見，二十八祖說始傳自六祖惠能及其弟子玄覺，足可破除自古以來，關於西土傳承的種種異說。
