Abstract中國禪宗初創於四祖道信，基本完成於五祖弘忍。由道信到弘忍的“東山法門”，無論是禪法思想、傳法方式，還是判教說法、活動范圍，都已具備了禪宗的各種特點，如不倡讀經禪，不立文字﹔農禪並重，隨緣任運﹔修行簡捷，意在守心﹔明心見性，證悟成佛﹔等等。中國禪宗叢林制度的基本原則思想，在東山法門也已初步形成。正因為有弘忍實際形成宗派在前，才有南能北秀的門下傍正之爭隨後。以六祖惠能為禪宗創始人的看法值得商確。
