| Abstract | 鎌田茂雄先生是日本東京大學名譽教授、國際佛教學大學院大學教授、文學博士，長期以來專門研究中國佛教史及華嚴思想，是日本研究中國佛教史權威學者。鎌田茂雄先生著作極豐，有《中國華嚴思想史研究》、《中國佛教思想史研究》、《宗密教學思想史研究》、《中國佛教通史》（全八卷）、《朝鮮佛教史》等70餘部。1999年11月11日，田茂雄先生在中國佛學院作了題為《近代日本的中國佛教史研究》的報告，受到師生們的熱烈歡迎。為了使讀者更多瞭解日本學術界有關中國佛教史研究的情況，特將全文譯出，以饗讀者。
