Abstract「安樂死」與臨終「器官捐贈」,因近代醫療科技進展與生命品質要求日高,成為廣受論辯的倫理難題,也是現代佛教臨終關懷必需面對的議題。佛教自許為一套「完整的生死學」,面對現代人這兩項抉擇煩惱,將以何種態度或立場參與討論?又如何將其智慧轉化為現代人可以適用的原則?
本文探討發現:由於佛教對「殺生」的基本立場,因此不論是「非自願的積極安樂死」或是「非自願的消極安樂死」,都無法許可。但對拿掉維生系統這樣的行為並不是全然不予許可,關鍵在於動機必須淨化而無『殺心』。
發心於臨終捐贈器官,確是莊嚴承擔的表示,難能而貴。但佛法更重視發心以後的實踐,因此在發心簽下臨終器官捐贈卡之後,當對「放下」的工夫繼續實踐與練習。
