Abstract《故靜証法師碎身塔》碑一方,碑陰為“大隋開皇十四年建”,原出土於安陽,其拓片現可見於趙萬里編《漢魏南北朝墓誌集釋
》(圖一)。此碑文雖僅寥寥數字,其塔主靜証法師亦不見於僧傳,然“碎身塔”之稱為一般碑銘中所罕見,故本文試釋之,以明中古時代之僧事。
“碎身”與“全身”相對,當係佛教中不同的葬法。佛教在印度時盛行火葬,稱之為荼毗,或作閣維、閣毗、閣鼻多等。隨佛教東傳,在中國“自
釋氏火葬之說起,於是死而焚屍者,所在皆然”。
