Cave 401 Mogao Grottoes dating from the third phase of the Sui Dynasty. There were 31 standing Bodhisattvas were painted by the early Tang dynasty on the lower part of four walls and as screen-painting inside of the niche western side wall.Based a thoroughly investigation in-situ and references on Dunhuang Manusripts and Buddhist Sūtra, this article took for granted that these standing Bodhisattvas images were adopted from Sūtra of the Universal Ornament of Attaining Buddhahoodto expression of repentance. The illustrations to Sūtra of the Universal Ornament of Attaining Buddhahood appeared at later Sui Dynasty and the early Tang Dynasty and had great influences to the latter Dunhuang art.
