Abstract華嚴哲學崛起於天臺之後,就佛學知識體系在印度及中國隋唐創造期而言,若不算教外別傳的禪宗而言,則華嚴哲學可謂佛學古典教理體系的最後一家創造系統。其作為創造性義理系統在於依華嚴經而開顯的法界緣起觀之哲學宇宙學知識體系,而有別於同為哲學宇宙學中小乘佛學的十二因緣論,及唯識宗的萬法唯識之阿賴耶緣起,和大乘起信論的如來藏緣起,以及密宗的地水火風空識六大緣起。其差別之要點,在於當各教義體系紛紛在緣起性空的佛學宇宙觀之基本立場上發展其各自適義的緣起宇宙學解釋系統時,華嚴哲學獨能把握佛化世界重重無盡的華嚴性海之浩瀚宇宙相,而可從最廣大的世界觀眼光中來舖陳此宇宙學的緣起說,並不類於十二因緣說之只述及宇宙事件相續發展之條件義,亦不類於阿賴耶識及如來藏識之只交代緣起事件的識藏海之染淨義及其去染求淨之行門義,更不類六大緣起之在處理緣起世界之原素構成義。法界緣起乃在如如給與無盡世界一切事相相入相即之實狀上說出無盡世界互為緣起之無盡緣起義,且收攝前述諸緣起之義理於法界觀法之中。
