此文較大幅度地改寫自發表於2004二月十三日十四日香港中文大學現象學與人文科學研究中心主辦「現象學與佛教哲學會議」的論文(海德格與禪.以西谷啟治論虛無主義為主之在京都學派中的相關討論〉的第三節,第一、二節後來發表成為〈佛教詮釋學的建構與反思:京都學派哲學與海德格爾的交涉〉。叉,曾經發表於國立台灣大學哲學系主辦的「佛教哲學的建購」學術研討會。

Abstract什麼是實在?為何是存在,而非虛無?真理是什麼?這些是重要的哲學問題。本文基於日本京都學派哲學家西谷啟治的空的哲學,從他對於華嚴與禪的當代詮釋觀點,對這些問題加以闡明。西谷啟治的哲學被認為是空之哲學,但是,西谷哲學並不只是一般所了解的淪落空虛的空之哲學,而也是他自己所說的「自體」立場的哲學。西谷所謂「自體」的立場,指的是一切事物應該存在的樣態以及原本存在的樣態,在西谷這種哲學立場之中,色的樣態和空的樣態,可以合而為一;西谷這種哲學和影響西谷甚大的當代哲學家海德格的思想,頗有可以會通之處。

What is Reality? Why is Being and not Nothingness? What is truth? These are important philosophical questions. From the perspective of Hua-yen and Zen, Nishitani Keiji exposits the answer of these questions. Nishitani Keiji's philosophy of nothingness is one kind of the philosophy of reality', that is a contemporary interpretation of Buddhist teaching and one way to conversation with Heidegger's thinking of Being.
