A. von Le Coq’s Chotcho contains 13 plates of wall paintings of the so-called Pranidhi Scenes taken from the cave Temple No. 32, Bezeklik, near Turpan in Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region. These Pranidhi Scenes contains Sanskrit verses written in" Slanting type of Gupta Script" which is peculiar handwriting found in the northern of of the Tarim Basin, such as Kucha, Turpan, Karashahr, etc. These verses are a clue to the interpretation of the Pranidhi Scenes. According to the verses, we know that the theme of the Pranidhi Scenes is based on the Sarvastivadins’ tradition of Buddhism. The Sanskrit verses of the Pranidhi Scenes are parallel to the verses of the Chinese and Tibetan translations of the Mulasaarvastivadins’ VinayaBhaisajyavastu.
