| Abstract | 宜昌市沮水兩岸有近三千座懸崖石窟，多年來被傳為萬窟之謎。石窟最為集中、數量最多的地段，有當陽市的百寶寨、百家洞、岩屋廟，及遠安縣的舊縣鎮、鳴鳳山、鹿苑寺等。經過筆者2002 年的兩次調查，認為這些石窟分為道教石窟與應付兵匪之亂的石窟兩類。道教石窟的年代大約為明清時期。應付兵匪之難的石窟年代大多在清咸豐年間，也有早至明末的。
There are near three thousand grottoes along the Jushui River, Yichang, while traditionally it is said more than ten thousand grottoes once existing there. Grottoes are distributed with a high density in Baibaozhai, Baijiadong, Yanwumiao, Jiuxianzhen,Mingfengshan, and Luyuansi. Two surveys conducted by the author in 2002 reveal that the grottoes could be divided into two categories, Daoism grottoes of theMing and Qing dynasties and shelters, mainly dated to the Xianfeng reign of the Qing dynasty except that some traced back as early as the end of the Ming dynasty. |
