Abstract

Un type particulièrement exotique de pagode bouddhique apparu en Chine sous les Ming, appelé «pagode-trône précieux de diamant» ou «cinq pagodes», est un des rares types architecturaux chinois qui s'inspirent explicitement d'un modèle indien, en l'occurrence le temple de la Mahābodhī («le grand Éveil») de Bodhgayā, un des principaux centres de pèlerinage bouddhique en Inde. L'étude de l'histoire et de l'architecture du Wuta de Pékin et de sa copie en Mongolie-Intérieure, et la comparaison avec les autres «copies» de Bodhgayā dans le monde bouddhique, en Birmanie, en Thaïlande et au Népal depuis (au moins) le XIIIe siècle, permet d'aborder le thème des influences artistiques entre la Chine et l'étranger, celui de la copie dans le domaine architectural, enfin, celui de la transmission d'un modèle indien dans toute l'Asie bouddhique. Les traits retenus de l'original varient d'un édifice à l'autre: ils sont fonction des contraintes matérielles – possibilité d'étudier le modèle original (ou de ce qu'il en restait à l'époque), déformations des modèles réduits et des dessins, sources littéraires éventuelles, techniques et matériaux de constructions locaux et topographie –, mais aussi et surtout des choix personnels des commanditaires et de leur vision de ce qu'est le lieu saint originel.

An exotic type of pagoda built in China since the Ming Dynasty is called "Diamond seat pagoda" or "Five pagodas". It is a rare form of Chinese architecture that is explicitly inspired by an Indian model, in this case, the Mahābodhī temple of Bodhgayā, a major pilgrimage site in India. The study of the history and the architecture of the Beijing Wuta and its Inner Mongolian copy, and the comparison with other "copies" of Bodhgayā in the Buddhist world, in Burma, Thailand and Nepal since (at least) the thirteenth century, allows us to tackle the issue of the artistic influences between China and abroad, that of the copy in the architectural field, and that of the transmission of an Indian model throughout Buddhist Asia. The original features repeated in the copy vary from one pagoda to another, according to material constraints—the possibility of studying the original model, deformations induced by smallscale models and drawings, local techniques and construction materials, topography—but also and above all, the personal choices of patrons and their perception of the original sanctuary.

金剛宝座塔あるいは五塔と呼ばれる明朝中国に作られた仏塔のまったくエキゾチックな様式は、明らかにインドの寺院、それもインドの仏教巡礼の主要な中心地であるボドガヤのマハボディー（「大菩提) 寺院をモデルとした中国でも珍しい様式の建造物である。北京の五塔寺やそれをモデルとした内蒙古の写しの建築史的研究と（少なくとも）丨 3 世紀以降のビルマ、タイ、ネパールなど仏教世界における他のボドガヤのコピー例との比較は、中国と外国との間の影響関係、建築分野におけるコピーの問題、そしてさらにアジアの仏教世界すべてへのインドのモデルの伝播のテーマに触れることになる。モデルから伝えられている特徴はそれぞれの建造物によって異なるが、それは具体的要因に左右されており、たとえばモデルの寺院を検討する可能性（あるいはその時代に残されたその寺院の姿）、モデル寺院の縮尺模型や図面資料の変形、時には文献資料、その土地の技術や建築資材、地形などによって異なるが、とりわけ注文主の個人的趣向や彼らの持つモデル寺院についてのイメージによって異なっている。
