| Abstract | 「研究佛學」與「信仰佛教」兩者間的關係，長久以來即受到教界與學界的關注，一種常見的情況是：學界流行「理性主義」，教界重視「信仰主義」，兩者間似存有不少距離。而學界對此問題的看法是，有認為兩者可以相輔相成，也有認為兩者存在著許多矛盾與衝突；不同的學者有不同的說法，可謂眾說紛紜。學術與修行的結合，不免涉及學術與信仰的矛盾，正視這種矛盾，實有其必要，此為本文撰寫之主要用意。依太虛法師說法，佛法是建在果證上。歐陽漸認為，內學所重在親證。印順法師則說：「佛教之所以成為佛教，即因具有超越一般宗教的禪境，而著重於智慧的體驗生活。」陳垣自詡為「實為一宗教史研究者而已」，在他的研究中，似剝離了「信仰」的成分；在無神論環境成長的佛教研究者，可能的傾向是，在學術研究中，把「研究」與「信仰」兩者分開。就研究佛學與信仰佛教而言，值得留意的是：帶著「信仰」和「宗教感情」，是否還可以客觀地研究佛學？又，若不具備信仰，是否能如實認
識佛學？然而，「智性活動」與「密契體驗」之間，也並非完全無法相容；「研究」有時候就是一種「實踐」（research as praxis）。本文著重討論太虛法師與印順法師對此問題之看法，再觀察近代學界主要代表人物對此議題之態度，進行相關之探討，藉以說明「研究佛學」與「信仰佛教」間的辯證關係。
The relationship between studying Buddhism and believing in Buddhism has long been a focus in both religious and academic circles. While some believe the two can be complimentary, others argue that there are incompatibilities. This article seeks to explore the contradiction between scholarly research and religious belief. In the past many Buddhist masters had different opinions about the relationship. One crucial point is whether it is possible to conduct objective studies of Buddhism, at the moment when religious belief and emotion are involved. Mainly drawing on the ideas of Master Tai Xu and Master Yin Shun, this article favors the concept of “research as proxis” and there might be ways to settle the incompatibility. |
