| Abstract | 영명연수는 『종경록』의 자서(自序)에서 이 책의 내용을 “일심을 종지로 삼아 만법을 거울처럼 비춘다.”라는 문구로 압축해서 서술하고 있다. 이는『 종경록』의 주요 내용이 바로 일심과 만법의 관계를 기술하는 데 집중되어 있음을 보여준 것이다. 여기서 해명되어야 할 부분은 첫 번째 연수가 제기한 일심의 성격이 어떠한 것인지에 대한 점이고, 두 번째 연수가 일심과 만법의 관계를 어떤 방법론에 의거하여 서술하고 있는지에 대한 점이다.
이 논문에서는 특히 두 번째 문제를『 종경록』에 등장하는 관심석 (觀心釋)이라는 개념을 통해 집중적으로 고찰하였다. 관심석은 천태지의에게서 기원한 경전 해석의 네 가지 방법 가운데 하나이다. 이는 천태의 교관(敎觀) 체계에서 보면, 교가 드러내고자 하는 진실의 경계를 수행자의 마음을 통해 곧장 체현할 수 있게 고안된 방식이다.
연수는 교관을 아우르는 관심석의 이런 특징에 근거하여 만법이 모두 일심에 의해 드러난 것임을 천명하였다. 그리고 여기서 더 나아가 그는 불교 내외의 온갖 법들과 일심의 긴밀한 관계들을 구체적으로 보여주고자 시도하였으며, 이런 시도의 결과물들이 결국 『종경 록』 100권으로 편찬된 것이다. 그러므로 관심석은 연수의 불교적 사유에 있어 핵심적 방법론의 역할을 담당할 뿐만 아니라 『종경록』의 일관된 편찬원리의 역할까지 담당하게 된다.
The fundamental subjects of Zongjinglu compiled by Yongming-Yanshou are comprehensively revealed in a phrase of its preface, “[I will try] to illuminate all dharmas through the principle of one-mind like a mirror. [擧一心爲宗, 照萬法如鏡].” This means that major parts of Zongjinglu are focused on explaining the relationship of one-mind (一心) and all dharmas (萬法). In this connection, we need to give a detailed account of two problems. The first problem is to know the characteristics of one-mind insisted on by Yanshou, and the second problem is to know what the fundamental method of explaining the relation of one-mind and all dharmas is.
In this dissertation, I especially tried to solve the second problem by means of mind-contemplating exegesis (觀心釋), one of the methods with which Zhiyi (智顗 interpreted a sutra (經). From the point of view of the scripture study and meditation practice (敎觀) in the Tian-Tai School, mind-contemplating exegesis means the methods of realizing ultimate reality through one’s mind.
On the basis of this method, Yanshou clarified a doctrine that all dharmas are come into existence by one-mind. Furthermore he tried to show concretely the inseverable relationship between one-mind and all dharmas. As a result of these efforts Zongjinglu was compiled. So mind-contemplating exegesis plays a important role not only in the fundamental methods of Yanshou’s Buddhist thought but also in the principle of compilation of Zongjinglu . |
