| Abstract | 수미산문(須彌山門)의 위상은 한국선법의 수입기에서 제3기에 전개되었는데 중국의 선종오가를 수입한 결과이기도 했다. 그 사상적인 근간은 중국 조동종풍의 전승이었다. 본고에서는 그것을 계승한 유학승들 가운데서 해동의 사무외대사(四無畏大士)를 비롯하여 운주(雲住)와 경보(慶甫) 등 6명의 선자들에 대한 선풍에 대하여 고찰하였다.
중국 조동종풍은 주도면밀하고 엄격한 괄골선(括骨禪), 동산삼로(洞山三路) 소위 불염오(不染汚)의 수행을 비유한 조도(鳥道)와 이견(二見)을 초월한 현묘한 길을 의미하는 현로(玄路)와 납자를 접화하는 방편으로서 중생을 화익(化益)하는 것을 의미하는 전수(展手), 깨침에도 집착하지 않는 불향상사(佛向上事), 일체의 깨침이 현전에 성취되어 있다는 현성공안(現成公案) 등으로 전개되었다. 이들 조동종지를 전승한 인물들은 귀국해서도 선자의 본분을 잊지 않고 중생을 위하는 보살행과 국가의 안위에 도움을 주는 이타행을 지속하는 방편으로 실질적인 국사의 자문역할을 하였다. 그들 가운데 수미산의 이엄과 동리산문의 경보를 제외하고는 소위 구산선문과 관련이 거의 보이지 않지만, 기타 선자들의 행실에서도 조동가풍을 전승하고 전개하였다. 그리고 이들은 공통적으로 본래인의 자각에 따른 자유인으로 살아가는 모습을 현실생활에 대한 강한 긍정의 사고방식으로 보여주었다.
구체적으로는 공사상의 실천이기도 한 동산삼로의 선리로서 몰종적의 가풍을 구현했던 형미(逈微), 용의주도하고 주도면밀한 가풍을 고려의 삼국통일 이전의 혼란한 현실생활에다 강한 긍정의 사상으로 승화시켜주었던 이엄(利嚴), 스승과 제자 사이에 의기투합(意氣投合)하여 언설의 표현을 초월한 이심전심의 방식을 전승한 경유(慶猷), 자기의 본분을 잊지 않고 여일하게 정진하는 납자의 충실한 본모습을 보여준 여엄(麗嚴), 조사선의 사상을 유감없이 발휘해주었던 운주(雲住), 보살행으로 작용하는 행동을 지니고 있는 불향상인(佛向上人)의 면모를 잘 보여주었던 경보(慶甫) 등이었다.
Sumisanmoon's status was developed in the third period of Korean Zen importers, which was the result of importing the five sects of Zen, the ideological foundations of which was the tradition of Caodongchanfeng in China. This study examines a selection of six monks, including Samuoidaesa (四無畏大士) in Korea, as well as Unju and Gyeongbo who studied abroad.
There are several doctrines related to Caodongchanfeng in China. The first is meticulous and strict, which is known as guaguchan (刮骨禪), meaning cutting off the so-called bone. The second is the three ways by which Tungshan- Liangchieh led his trainees (洞山三路). These include ① niodao (鳥道) which compares uncontaminated performance, ② xuanlu (玄路) which transcends discernment, and ③ zhanshou (展手) which benefits regeneration by edifying the disciples. The third doctrine is to give up the idea of buddhas and patriarchs (佛向上事). This means to move beyond enlightenment without attachment to it. Fourth is the undisguised manifestation of the ultimate reality (現成公案).
The following are some of those who have introduced these doctrines of Caodongchanfeng from China. Hyeong-mi (逈微) implemented the three ways by which Tungshan-Liangchieh led his trainees by practicing thoughts on emptiness. Lee-um (利嚴) implemented the strict practice of guaguchan. Gyung-you (慶猷) established a method of transmission that transcends rhetoric and combines the mind of the teacher with that of the student. Yeo-um (麗嚴) shows the true nature of the individual who seriously devotes himself without forgetting his duties. Un-ju (雲住) vastly spread the idea of patriarch-zen. Gyeong-bo (慶甫) practiced as a bodhisattva and also showed how one can surpass Buddhahood (佛向上人) as well. |
