| Abstract | 이 글의 목적은 唐 李通玄 저 『十明論』의 문헌적⋅사상적 특징을 밝히는 것이다. 이 글에서는 『십명론』이 매우 구체적이고 명확한 목적 아래 저술되어, 이통현의 불교관을 집약적으로 보여주고 있음을 확인했다. 즉 『십명론』은 『華嚴經』의 교설을 원용하면서도 불교의 원점으로 돌아가, 實存의 문제에 정면으로 대응하여 修證의 이념과 방법론을 제시하고 있다. 『십명론』은 수행론을 다루고 있다는 점에서는 『決疑論』과 유사하지만 十二緣生觀을 중심 주제로 하고 있다는 점에서 차별성이 확인된다.
『십명론』에서는 이통현이 연기론을 ‘이론’의 층위에서 ‘실천’의 층위로 보다 적극적으로 전환하여 파악하고 있는 점이 특히 주목된다. 그는 『화엄경』 의 연기에 관한 교설을 십이연생으로서의 실존의 관점에서 주체적으로 해석하고, 십이인연의 교설을 識이 아닌 意根을 중심으로 해석하는 것이다. 또 그는 세계와 자신의 실상을 확인하는 수단으로써 불지혜의 힘을 佛光觀의 형태로 주체적 관점에서 차용하여 십이연생관의 修證論을 정립한다. 이는 『화엄경』 교설의 과감한 재해석 및 자의적 해석을 통해 가능했으며, 그에게 『화엄경』의 교설은 더 이상 관념적이고 추상적인 이념이 아니라 주체적이고 실천적 의미를 갖는 것이었다.
This article is intended to reveal the philological and ideological characteristics of the Shih-ming-lun written by a Tang scholar, Li Tong-xuan. I discussed that the work has a very specific and clear purpose, and accordingly shows his Buddhist ideas in its intense form. In other words, Li Tong-xuan adopted the teachings of the Avatamska Sutra, but paid his attention to the root of Buddhism in the Shih-ming-lun. Therefore, he proposed the idea and method of self-cultivation in response to the issue of human existence. The work is similar with the Jue-yi-lun because both of them deal with the theory of self-cultivation, but is different from the Jue-yi-lun in that it centers on the topic of twelvefold dependent co-arising.
The Shih-ming-lun is characterized by Li Tong-xuan’s attempt to consider the co-arising theory from a perspective of practice rather than theory. He gave his original interpretation to the theory of co-arising shown in the Avatamska Sutra as “twelvefold dependent co-arising” from a perspective of human existence, and interpreted the teachings of twelve links of cyclic existence centering on manas, not vijñāna. In addition, he utilized the power of Buddhist wisdom in terms of the contemplation of Buddha’s light as a way for us to realize the world and ourselves, and established the theory of practice and realization with regard to the view of twelvefold dependent co-arising. His new interpretation is the outcome of his drastic and creative reinterpretation of the teachings of the Avatamska Sutra. Therefore, the doctrines of the Avatamska sutra are not just conceptual or abstract ideas any more, but have a subjective and practical significance. |
