| Abstract | 필자는 「한국불교 法寶信仰의 初期 형성 및 전개」란 제목하에 삼국⋅통일신라기에 형성된 法寶信仰의 諸要素를 고찰, 이를 통해 다음 내용을 밝혀 보았다.
初傳期의 法寶信仰的 요소로 고구려의 경우 講經의 常行이, 백제의 경우 律典을 통한 실천 및 呪術, 治病을 위한 讀經이 행해졌음을 알 수 있다. 신라의 경우 新羅三寶 개념과 경전의 護國功能 인식, 經의 威神力에 대한 威儀형성 및 經信仰의 초기적 형태가 행해졌음을 볼 수 있다.
한편 經典納塔의 예로서, 고구려는 梵書銘 納塔 예를 통해, 백제의 경우 『금강경』 納塔의 예를 통해 經典의 法舍利的 인식이 형성되었음을 알 수있다.
統一新羅의 경우 『佛說造塔功德經』의 규범에 따른 「佛法身偈」 등의 納塔이 행해졌으며, 佛腹藏에 경전의 納入 예를 통해 法舍利的 개념이 확산되었음을 알 수 있다. 法舍利의 개념 확산에 따른 寫經이 유행하기도 했던 바 이는 功德經 개념으로 발전, 粧飾經 제작이 행해지기도 하였다. 또한 法寶 常住의 염원 속에 石經 및 瓦經이 조성되었음을 볼 수도 있다.
이외에 『인왕경』 등에 근거한 護國⋅讓災儀式이 행해졌으며, 經力에 의거한 經信仰의 성립 및 독경의식이 정립되었음을 볼 수 있다. 한편 경전 관련 행법의 儀軌化는 經에 대한 敬畏感과 함께 經信仰 확산에 영향을 미쳤음을알 수 있다.
이외에 亡魂 薦度의 예로서 梵唄 諷經, 經의 聞誦功德 등 법보신앙의 다양한 예를 볼 수 있는 바, 통일신라대에 法寶信仰은 經力에 의거한 經信仰과 공덕 성취, 法身舍利의 納塔과 寫經, 護國 讓災 등 다양한 형태로 발전되었음을 알 수 있다.
Under the title of “Early Formation and Development of Dharma-Ratna Faith in Korea,” this study examined the various elements of Dharma-Ratna Faith formed during the Period of Three Kingdoms and Unified Silla and found out the followings:
As for the elements of Dharma-Ratna Faith during the early transmission in the Three Kingdoms, Goguryeo showed the prevalence of expounding the sūtras; Baekje showed practice through the canon of rules, incantation through esoteric monks, and sutra chanting for healing purposes; and Silla showed the establishment of the concept of three treasures of Silla, the function of Sutra to protect the nation, and the early form of Sutra Faith in the majesty of power of the Sutra.
As for the examples of being enshrined in stupas, Goguryeo enshrined Sanskrit records in the stupas of early transmission; Baekje established Jeseok monastery and enshrined the Diamond Sutra in stupas, which indicates that the perception of dharma-sarira for sutras was developed as an example of Dharma-Ratna Faith.
In United Silla that witnessed the diverse developmental patterns of Dharma-Ratna Faith, they enshrined Buddha-Dharmaśarīra-Gata and dhāraṇī in stupas according to the rules of Caityapradakṣiṇagāthā and Raśmivimalaviśuddhaprabhādhāraṇī and spread the concept of dharmasarira through the cases of enshrining sutras inside the Abdomen of Buddha Statues.
There was a vogue of sutra transcription according to the expanded concept of dharma-sarira, and it was evolved into the concept of charity with the making of decorated sutras such as transcription sutra with gold and silver. In addition, stone and tile sutras were made to wish for the eternal existence of Dharma-Ratna.
They also pursued to protect the nation and remove disasters based on Inwang sutras and established Sutra Faith and sutra chanting based on the power of the Sutra. As the practices related to the sutras were ritualized, they influenced the spread of Sutra Faith along with awe for the sutras.
Examples of various developments of Dharma-Ratna Faith were found in Beompae, sutra chanting, and sutra listening as the examples of soul liberation. Those findings indicate that Dharma-Ratna Faith developed in various forms including the authority of practice and action, incantation, healing, and national protection functions during Unified Silla in the early transmission of Buddhism. |
