Abstract天台宗與華嚴宗是中國佛教在教理與禪觀上發展的兩座高峰,特別是在佛教教理上,兩宗在中國佛教中處於頂峰的狀態。此兩宗都以思想之圓融著稱,天台以三諦圓融,彌顯諸宗,華嚴以理事圓融、事事無礙,獨出諸乘。兩宗的圓教義比較。天台以“初住發心即具一切種智”為極則,而華嚴以“圓融具德”,“普賢法界帝網重重”,“主伴具足”,“事事無礙”境界為極則。天台圓教攝末歸本,在教上純圓,而華嚴圓教,為根本法輪,於佛法要證的果德境界上來是說純圓。
天台與華嚴判教的區別也就是立于教法與教授之區別,法華在教授上極圓,華嚴在教法上極圓。這其實也是兩宗的特色,天台教觀雙美,有教有觀,諸種根均可有憑以入,而華嚴後來發展成玄論,教義極豐富,但需上上根基者方能趨入。因此,總攝兩宗的圓義方能顯出佛法悲智雙足的圓滿。
