| Abstract | 본 논문은 衆賢(Saṃghabhdra)의 阿毘達磨順正理論 에 언급된 經主世親과 上座 슈리라타(Śrīlāta)의 諸說에 대한 논주의 평가를 정리한 것이다. 순정리론 은 일차적으로 경량부적인 사유에 경도된 세친의 구사론 을 비판하기 위한 것이지만, 오히려 슈리라타에 대한 비판이 보다 광범위하게 이루어지고 있는데, 중현과 그들 사이에는 결코 和會할 수 없는 깊은 골이 있었다.
『순정리론』상에서 슈리라타의 호칭은 上座(sthavira)이다. 여기서 상좌는 長老의 뜻으로, 물론 譬喩部(혹은 譬喩者, 譬喩宗)의 장로를 의미한다. 『순정리론』에서 비유부는 經部(혹은 경량부)를 포괄하는 개념이다. 중현은 그들을 직접적으로 언급할 때면 대개 ‘譬喩部’라는 명칭을 사용하며, 세친과 슈리라타에 의해 인용된 기사를 언급할 때와 그들이 有部에서 인용한 經說을 부정하거나 자의적으로 해석하여 폄훼할 때만 ‘經部’라는 명칭을 사용하였다. 비유부가 유부(적대자)에 의해 불려진 명칭이라면, 경부는 그들 자신의 명칭인 셈이다.
당시 슈리라타의 본거지는 東方이었다. 여기서 동방은 정통 유부의 근거지인 北方 즉 서북인도 카슈미르지방에서 본 동방으로, 玄奘은 그가 阿踰陀國의 한 가람에서 『經部毘婆沙』를 지었다고 전하고 있으므로 아유타국으로 추측할 수 있다.
슈리라타에 대한 중현의 평가는 신랄하다. 예컨대 “그는 늙어빠진 우매한 이[朽昧上座]로서, 그의 주장은 벙어리가 꿈속에서 말한 것과 같고 애들이 장난삼아 하는 말과 같다”고 조소한다. 특히 그의 중심이론인 隨界說을 空花論(즉 대승공관)과 같은 壞法論(불타교법을 파괴하는 논)으로 평가하였다.
『순정리론』상에서 세친의 호칭은 經主(sūtrakāra)이다. 그것은 아마도 그가 ‘經을 지식의 근거[量]로 삼는다’는 경량부 사유에 기초하여 『구사론』을 지었기 때문일 것인데, 『순정리론 에서 세친은 경량부(비유부)나 슈리라타와 ‘같은 견해를 지닌 자[同見者]’로 취급된다.
그렇지만 세친이 슈리라타의 제자는 아니다. 加藤純章은 그의 『經量部の硏究』에서 세친과 슈리라타는 사제지간이라고 주장하였지만, 그것은 上座와 軌範師를 혼동하였기 때문이다. 『구사론』에서도, 『순정리론』에서도 상좌와 궤범사는 별도의 인물이다.
This thesis is a explanation of the author’S assessment about the theories of Vasubandhu and Śrīlāta as stated in Abhidharmanyāyānusāra śāstra by Saṃghabhadra. Fundamentally the Nyāyānusāra śāstra has been criticized Abhidharmakoṣa śāstra inclined to a Sautrāntika’S way of thinking, however criticism of Śrīlāta has been conducted with greater variety.
In Nyāyānusāra śāstra Śrīlāta is called the sthavira. Sthavira means a presbyter of Darṣṭāntika. In Nyāyānusāra śāstra Darṣṭāntika is the notion of including Sautrāntika. When Saṃghabhadra refers to them directly, most of all, he uses the name of Darṣṭāntika. He only use the name of Sautrāntika when he mentions the accounts quoted by Vasubandhu and Śrīlāta, and when they denying or interpreting arbitrarily to slander the scripture quoted by Sarvāstivādins Saṃghabhadra makes a severe criticism toward Śrīlāta. He sneers at Śrīlāta as a old and ignorant one. He says that Śrīlāta’teachings like a dumb person talking in the dream, and children murmuring jokes in their rooms. Especially, he criticizes Śrīlāta’S main theory “Anudhātuvāda(隨界說)” as “destroying the doctrine of the buddha(壞法論)”, same as
the illusionism(viz Śūnyata dṛṣṭi).
In Nyāyānusāra śāstra Vasubandhu is called the sūtrākāra. That’S maybe he recognizes the sūtra(scripture) and not abhidharma as an authority. In Nyāyānusāra śāstra Vasubaudhu is treated as “having the same views(同見者)” with Sautrāntika(Darṣṭāntika) and Śrīlāta.
However, Vasubandhu is not the disciple of Śrīlāta. Kato Junsho(加藤純章) claimed that they’re a relationship between them as master and disciple in the Study of Sautrāntika because he confused sthavira with ācārya. But in Abhidharmakoṣa śāstra, and in Nyāyānusāra śāstra, sthavira and ācārya are different people. |
