AbstractThis thesis has considered the Sammata-Vipassanā(止觀) centering around the Saṃdhi-nirmocana-sūtra. It is producing the four kinds of items as the subject of the Sammata-Vipassanā in the Saṃdhi-nirmocana-sūtra; 1) the image being discriminative, 2) the image being non-discriminative, 3) the supreme nature of thing, 4) the completion by accomplishing the having to do. To research the Sammata-Vipassanā practice, all of the Boddhisattvas hold the oaths to wish for the anuttara-samyak-saṃbuddha(無上正等覺) and should practice the Sammata-Vipassanā under the religious doctrine of the Buddha. Namely it is of the fundamental base that is the course of 聞思修 hearing, observing and practicing on the Buddha's teachings.
First of all, it attains to the silence and tranquility(prasrabdhi, 輕安) of mind-body by the mind-making(manaskāra, 作意) according to excellent comprehension with the Sammata-Vipassanā. After having attained to the silence and tranquility of mind-body in the Saṃdhi-nirmocana-sūtra, that considers it as the Sammata-Vipassanā being obtained.
Having obtained the silence and tranquility of mind-body, one proceeds on rightly thinking and choosing the exhausted-possessiveness regarding to have to know about doing by the mind-making of the Sammata-Vipassanā. Subsequently being versed in that the knowing is the image being done in Samādhi and being concentrated the mind on a single object, one is progressed to harmonizing the Sammatha with the Vipassanā. One separate from the attachment about all of the features of dharmas and meanings by the mind-making of the true states of things(眞如) and proceeds to separate the attachments concerning 10 features into 17 empties(śūnyas). This means namely to choose after having done the most thorough thinking. The 7 kinds of respective thorough wisdoms arise from the 7 kinds of true states of things by abandoning the very features of all dharma-features in the Path of vision(darśanamarga), and thus such is said to have attained to the first stage.
In the above mentioned, the Saṃdhi-nirmocana-sūtra being different from the Yogacāra-bhūmi maintains that the Path of vision is versed in the true states of things introducing the concept 'the true states of things'. Or when it explains the Sammata-Vipassanā, we can know to be involved most of the contents of Vijñaptimātra. Moreover the 7 kinds of mind-makings are explained in the practicing courses of Yogacāra-bhūmi, while those are not adopted in the Saṃdhi-nirmocana-sūtra.
