AbstractThis article first examines the textual structure of the Okkantika Saṃyutta (no. 25), Uppāda Saṃyutta (no. 26), Kilesa Saṃyutta (no. 27), and Rāhula Saṃyutta (no. 18) of the Pāli Saṃyutta-nikāya in conjunction with their Chinese counterparts in the Saṃyuktāgama (Taishō vol. 2, no. 99). Then it compares the main teachings contained in the two versions. It reveals similarities but also significant differences in both structure and doctrinal content, thus advancing the historical/critical study of early Buddhist doctrine in this area.
