Abstract | In the late 19^(th) century, a Japan-Ceylon (present-day Sri Lanka) Buddhist communication network began to form, and Japanese Mahāyāna Buddhists and Ceylonese Theravāda Buddhists had many dialogues by exchanging letters. That developed into further exchanges between Japanese and Ceylonese Buddhism. This paper is a survey of the development of exchanges, centered on the formation of the network. |
