Based on Dr. Kwang-chih chang’s theory of “continuity and rupture” which illuminates the different perspectives of the origin of civilization between the East and the West, the author emphasizes the significant meaning of the traditional Chinese concept of continuity and the “body-mind unity” in the development of the world civilization. Furthermore, employing his own theory of “harmony and equilibrium cosmology” derived from his study on the folk culture of Taiwan and Southern Fukien; and from his embodiment research project on “Culture, Qi and Traditional Medicine”, the author illustrates how the process of body-mind unity and its transcendence were formulated in traditional Chinese culture.
