| Abstract | 본 고찰은 한용운의 불교 사회주의에 대한 내용과 성격을 살핀 글이다. 한용운은 시인, 독립운동가, 불교사상가라는 다면적인 성격을 가졌다. 그러나 그에 대한 연구는 문학, 독립운동에 치우쳐 있었다. 때문에 그의 사상적인 성격에 대해서는 검토할 측면이 많다.
본 고찰은 이런 전제에서 집필되었다. 그런데 한용운의 불교사회주의에 대한 이전의 연구자들의 연구가 있었다. 그를 비판적으로 보건대 한용운의 불교사회주의를 좌파적으로만 인식하는 등 적지 않은 문제점을 갖고 있었다. 한용운은 1931년 12월 9일, 『삼천리』 기자와의 대담에서 ‘불교사회주의’에 대한 입장을 개진하였다. 즉 한용운은 ‘불교사회주의’ 사상을 갖고 있고, ‘불교사회주의’에 대하여 저술할 생각을 갖고 있다고 발언하였다. 그러나 그 이후 한용운은 그에 대한 글을 집필하지 않았다. 때문에 그의 불교사회주의의 성격은 이해하기 어렵다.
그래서 필자는 이 글에서 기존 연구자들의 주장을 비판적으로 살피고자 한다. 그 연후에는 필자의 견해를 개진하겠다. 그 관점은 첫째, 한용운과 관련된 객관적인 기록의 중시 둘째, 한용운의 불교 사상 셋째, 한용운의 사회관에 대한 관점 넷째, 한용운이 반종교운동을 비판하였던 사실 등이다. 필자의 이 고찰이 한용운 사상, 일제하 사회주의, 반종교운동 등의 이해에 참고가 되길 기대한다.
This is a review of the content and personality of Han Yong-un's Buddhist socialism. Han Yong-un has a multifaceted personality, a poet, an independence activist, and a Buddhist priest. But his research was focused on literary and independence movements. Therefore, there are many aspects to consider about his ideological character.
This thesis is written on this premise. There are many previous study by researchers on Buddhist socialism in Han Yong-un. He had a number of problems with the left-wing perception of the Buddhist socialism of Han Yong-un, the university. Han Yong-un announced his stance on ‘Buddism’ in a talk with a journalist at Zemchon Riemoon on December 9, 1931. In other words, Han Yong-un said that he has the idea of ‘Buddhistism’ and that he is thinking of writing about ‘Buddhistism.’ But since then, Han has not written about him. Therefore, his nature of Buddhist socialism is difficult to understand.
So in this article, I want to critically examine existing researchers' claims. I will present my views after that. The view was first, the importance of objective records related to Han Yong-un, secondly, third in Buddhist history, fourth in view of Han Yong-un's view of society, and the fact that Han Yong-un criticized anti-rel movement. I hope that this review will serve as a guide to understanding Han Yong-un's ideology, socialism under Japanese colonial rule, and anti-religious movements.
