This paper is dealing with Chyuzan(中算)'s interpretation on Dharmapala's doctrine about the divisions of four parts of the consciousness. Chyuzan is explaining about the two parts, that is, the seeing part and the seen part of the consciousness among the four parts, establishing the fourfold topics, and shows his own interpretation different from Kuiji[窺基]'s interpretation. In the first topic, he maintains that the four parts can be implicated into two part, three parts, and one part respectively. And he claims that two parts, namely the representation of the cognizing and the representation of the cognized appear in the consciousness as the consciousness itself occurs, and so the part of self-awareness and the part of the awareness of the self-awareness can be implicated into the representation of the cognizing. In the second topic, he claims that the cognizing and the cognized arising dependently on other elements are apprehended just in the correlation of the cognizing and the cognized understood as a transcendence. In the third topic that testifies to the fact that two parts of the consciousness arising dependenty on other elements, unlike Kuiji who sets up arguments about each representation, Chyuzan sets up an argument, putting together two representations. In the fourth topic demonstrating that the two parts appears in the consciousness on the basis of the Sūtra, he conceives the first phrase of the Gāthā in the 厚嚴經, as referring to two parts arising dependently on other elements, whereas Kuiji considers it as referring the inner mind opposed to the outer object. In all of the four topics, he emphasizes that the two parts, namely the seeing part and the seen part exists in the mind as the consciousness itself occurs. In each topic, he presents the new interpretation we can't find out in the Kuiji's interpretation, and he reinforces or revises what Kuiji interpreted.
