| Abstract | 이 글의 목적은 원측(圓測)의 『인왕경소』에 나타난 경전 해석 방법의 특징을 살펴보는 것이다. 경전 주석가로서 원측은 역사적이고 중립적인 문헌학적 연구와 판단보다는 불교적 진리를 체득한 자들의 내적인 확증에 의거해서 대승 경전을 ‘부처님이 설한(佛說)’ 문헌으로 간주한다. 또 경문의 해석에 있어서는, 주관적이고 자의적인 해석보다는 불교 내의 학술적 지침에 따라서 ‘법상(法相)’을 분석하고 해석하였다. 그의 『소』에서 가장 두드러진 특징은 ‘삼승의 학설이 모두 궁극의 해탈에 이르는 하나의 요가의 길[瑜伽道]를 이룬다’는 대원칙에 따라 모든 해석들의 방대한 백과사전적 종합을 추구한다는 점이다. 그는 한편으로 하나의 경문에 대한 대소승의 다양한 해석들 간의 갈등․긴장 관계를 보여주고, 다른 한편으로 적절한 원리와 방법을 동원해서 그것들을 체계적 구조 안에 정리하고 종합해놓는다. 이러한 종합을 통해 ‘해석의 자유와 학문적 엄밀성’이라는 두 가지 요소를 조화시키면서 경문의 의미에 대한 총체적 이해를 증진시키고자 한다.
The purpose of this treatise is to examine the characteristics of the methods of exegetics which show in Wŏnch'ŭk(圓測)'s commentary one Humane King Sutra (仁王經疏). Wŏnch'ŭk, a commentator on Buddhist scriptures, based on the inner confirmation of the men who realized the buddhist truth instead of the historical and neutral investigation of the philologists, and regarded Mahāyāna scriptures as the buddha's teaching(佛說). Rejecting the arbitrary interpretation and valuing the guiding principles in buddhism, he analyzed and interpreted the characters of dharma(法相). It is characteristic of his commentary that he tried to integrate various interpretations into a kind of encyclopedia according to the idea that all theories in Three Vehicle(三乘) constitute a yoga-way(瑜伽道) to reach the ultimate state of nirvana. On the one hand he showed the tension among the various interpretations of the word in the scripture, and on the other arranged and integrated in systematic order based on the proper principles and methods. Like this, he harmonized the interpretative freedom and the academic accuracy, and tried to improve the whole comprehension of the meaning of the scripture. |
