Abstract『염불작법』은 염불을 행하는 의식의 차제를 기록한 의례집으로 아미타불을 염하는 의식의 절차만을 다룬 것이라고 여겨진다. 하지만 그 내용은 의식의 순서뿐 아니라 염불수행의 방법을 기술하고 있다. 이에 본고는 『염불작법』이 단순히 의식만을 행하는 것이 아니라 의식과 수행이 동시에 이루어지는 수행 의례라는 것에 주목하였다. 16세기부터 18세기까지 각 지역 사찰에서 단독으로 간행된 『염불작법』은 의식의 구성과 내용에서 차이를 보인다. 특히 18세기 해인사본 『염불작법』은 16세기 용천사본 『염불작법』의 의식에 비해 그 구성을 간소화하고 염불수행에서도 구념염불 또는 칭념염불을 강조한다. 그렇지만 용천사본의 경우, 염불 의식에서 16관경수지법문약의 관상염불과 48원 원력 장엄염불을 포함하고 있다. 이에 본고는 해인사본과 용천사본 『염불작법』의 차제에서 염불 의식의 공통된 요소를 찾아내어 변화되지 않고 유지되었던 항목을 추려내어 염불 의식을 재구성 해 본다. 또한 용천사본 『염불작법』에서 관상염불, 장엄염불, 아미타경 독송과 진언염불을 염불수행의 특징으로 보았다. 이와 같이 18세기 이전 염불수행에서는 칭념염불 보다 아미타불신, 아미타불세계, 수행자 자신을 관하는 관상염불을 상당히 중시한 것을 알 수 있다.

Yeombuljakbeop[念佛作法] is a collection of ceremonies that record the sequence of rituals of thinking of the Buddha. So it is considered to deal only with the ceremonial procedures for thinking of Amitābha Buddha. However, the content describes not only the sequence of rituals, but also the method of thinking of the Buddha. Therefore, this thesis focused on Yeombuljakbeop as not only a ritual, but also a ritual in which both ritual and practice are performed. From the 16th century to the 18th century, the Yeombuljakbeop, which was published independently by each local temple, differs in the composition and content of the ritual. In particular, the 18th century Haeinsa Yeombuljakbeop has simplified its composition compared to the 16th century Yongcheonsa Yeombuljakbeop, and emphasized the Gunyeom-yeombul[口念念佛] or Chingnyeom-yeombul[稱念念佛] in the practice of yeombul. However, in the case of the Yongcheonsa manuscript, in the ceremonial rites, the Gwansang-yeombul[觀想念佛] of the 16gwangyeong-sujibeobmunyag and the 48won-wonlyeog Jangeom-yeombul[莊嚴念佛] were included. Therefore, this study reconstructed the ritual by extracting the items that remained unchanged by finding the common elements of the ritual of yeombul in the Haeinsa and Yongcheonsa Yeombuljakbeop. In addition, in the Yongcheonsa Yeombuljakbeop, I considered the Gwansang-yeombul, Jangeom-yeombul, reciting the Amitābha Sutra, and the Jineon-yeombul as the characteristics of the practice of yeombul. As such, it can be seen that before the 18th century, in the practice of yeombul, much emphasis was placed on the Amitābha Buddha, the world of the Amitābha Buddha, and the Gwansang-yeombul which visualizes the meditator himself, rather than the Chingnyeom-yeombul.
