| Abstract | 본 논문에서는 불교의 願의 문제에 대하여 살펴보았다. 부처님의 근본적인 가르침은 인간의 오욕락을 버리고 수행정진하여 성불의 길에 이르도록 가르치고 있다. 그러나 탐욕을 버리되 새로운 삶과 희망에 대한 의지 意向은 더욱 크게 내길 바라고 있다. Pūrva-pran̜idhāna는 發願이나 誓願에 대해 초기에는 인간적인 바람, 소원, 기원 등의 의미로 보아야 할 것이다. 이에 대해 願이란 ‘구하는 것을 정하여 그것을 얻으려고 기원하고 구하는 것’, ‘바람’으로 쓰이고 있다. 業의 속박에서 벗어나고 변화시킬 수 있는 의지를 誓願으로 보고 있다. 초기의 원시불교에서는 『수타니파타』에서 말하는 것처럼 四輪法, 인간이 행복하게 살 수 있는 법에 대해서 세간적이고 재가자적인 서원을 세우고 있으나, 소승부파불교에서는 석가모니불의 본생담에서 석가보살의 서원을 주로 언급하고 있다. 그러나 대승불교에서는 다불다보살의 출현으로 모든 불보살의 공통적인 원인 四弘誓願을 총원이라 하고, 각 불보살의 개별적인 원을 本願이라고 하였다. 총원의 대표적인 사홍서원도 초기에는 四弘誓라고 하다가 후에 사홍서원이라고 하였으며, 오늘날 사용하는 것은 중국불교에서 자리 잡게 되었다. 한편 본원사상의 대표적인 것으로는 『阿閦佛國經』의 아촉불의 동방묘희세계와 『無量壽經』의 아미타불의 48대원을 들 수 있다. 이러한 대승불보살의 모든 원은 그 뿌리를 上求菩提와 下化衆生에 두고 있다. 우리는 이러한 원이 실현될 수 있도록 수행정진하여야 할 것이다.
This dissertation studies on the issue of Buddhistic wish. The essential teachings of Buddha tell us to let our disgrace and pleasure go, and to practice asceticism, and to move toward the way of enlightenment. The essential teachings of Buddha tell us to abandon our greed but instruct us to have an enlarged wish for a new life and hope. According to Pūrva-pran̜dhāna, offering a prayer or making a vow was meant to be a human desire, wish, or praying originally. It defined a wish as a praying and attaining the objective after fixing what is sought for. Namely, a wish was meant be a desire. It also viewed vow as a will to change and free from karma restraint. At the initial stage of original Buddhism, like what is written to be in Sutanipata, there was a secular Buddhist vow for a happy life, which was called as a four wheel dharma. Hinayana Buddhism, however, mainly mentioned about Shakyamuni bodhisattva’s vow recorded in the Jataka sutra which talks about Shakyamuni Buddha’s original life. There are, however, multiple Buddhasand multiple Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism. All Buddhas and Bodhisattvas’s common vows, which are represented in fouressential vows for Buddhists, are called as a total vow. Individual vow of each Buddha and each bodhisattva is called as an original vow. Four essential vows for Buddhists represented as a total vow was once called as four essential pledges initially, later, those were named as four essential vows. Current use of four essential vows came from Chinese Buddhism. As good represents of original vow thought, there are east mystic world of Achok Buddha depicted in Achok Buddha’s land sutra and Amitabha’s 48 big vows depicted in immeasurable bliss sutra. All vows of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in Mahayana Buddhism are based on the principle which is seeking upward for supreme wisdom and is saving all sentiment beings fromdownward. We should practice diligently in order to accomplish those vows. |
