| Abstract | 본 논문은 용성스님의 大覺證得과 點檢에 대하여 살펴보았다. 그는 꿈에 부처님의 깨우침으로 출가를 하게 되었다. 이는 바로 부처님께서 꿈에 현몽으로 계시를 주고, 수기를 준 것으로 받아들이게 되었다. 다음은 水月화상을 만나 업장소멸의 수행방법으로 천수주와 육자주의 염송을 지도 받고 9개월 동안 지송하였으며, 보광사 도솔암에서 1차 오도를 경험하였다. 그런 뒤 無融선사를 만나 無字話頭를 받고 화두 참구에 전념하여 2차 오도를 체험하였다. 그럼에도 불구하고 계속된 수행으로 3차 오도를 하고, 마지막으로 4차 오도로 確徹大悟 하였다. 이를 大覺이라고 보았던 것이다. 그러나 여기에 만족하지 않고 자신의 대각증득을 경전이나 어록에서 확인하려고 하였다. 깨달은 뒤 경전을 열람하여 자신의 체험이 틀림없음을 확인하였다. 그 뒤 悟後保任에 들어가 수년 동안 자신을 返照하게 되었다. 여기서 자신을 얻은 그는 천하의 선지식을 찾아 법거량을 하면서 자신의 경지를 재점검하였다. 이와 같은 확고부동하고, 명확한 깨달음이 민족독립운동으로 나타나게 되었고, 불교의 개혁운동인 대각운동으로 실천하는 원동력이 되었다.
This dissertation contemplates Yong-Sung's attaintment of enlightenment and his continuous practice after that. He became a Buddhist monk after he had illuminating dreams where he received revelation and approval from the buddha. He had his first awakening experience in Boguang temple in Dosol-am after he recited the mantras of Avalokitesivara and Namo-Amita Buddha that he received from Soo-Werl sunim for 9 months. Then, he experienced his second awakening from meditating on 'Mujahwadu (無字話頭)‘ received from Mu-Yoong sunim. Due to his endless effort to achieve enlightenment, he got the third awakening and finally achieved the great enlightenment (確徹大悟). This enlightenment is not different from the Buddha's enlightenment. He didn't stop his journey to the truth here and confirmed that he attained enlightenment through the Sutras and analects. Then, he retired to Ohwuborim (悟後保任) to reflect on his experiences. Yong-Sung gained confidence from this reflection, and started his journey to find enlightened teachers in order to inspect is the state of his enlightenment. Yong-Sung's stable and clear enlightenment was shown in the national independent movement and became a great motive for the reformatory movement in the Buddhist society, which is also known as the Great Enlightenment Movement.
