| Abstract | 본 고찰은 일제하의 고승, 독립운동가, 불교개혁가 등으로 불리는 백용성에 대한 지금까지의 연구 성과를 정리하고, 추후의 연구를 전망하는 글이다. 지금껏 백용성이 입적한지 70여년, 연구가 시작된 지가 40여 년이 되어 가지만 백용성 연구에 대한 성과, 성찰, 문제점, 연구방향 등을 종합적으로 정리한 논고가 없었다. 그래서 본고에서는 기존의 백용성 연구의 분석을 초창기 연구, 주제별 연구 동향으로 대별하여 살펴보았다. 주제별 연구에서는 생애사, 대각교, 민족운동, 불교개혁, 불교대중화, 사상, 저술, 전승 및 계승, 자료집 및 대중서 발간 등으로 나누고, 동시에 그 해당 논문을 제시하였다. 이런 내용을 통하여 우리는 그간 백용성 연구 동향을 입체적으로 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 그리고 백용성 연구의 전망에서는 지금까지의 연구에서 나온 성격, 문제점을 제시하였다. 그는 연구자층의 협소함, 기초적인 사실 확인에 유의, 민족주의와 조계종단 시각에 고정, 다양한 관점의 미약, 연구의 기획을 대각사상연구원에서 주도, 연구 결과의 대중화 부족 등이었다. 이런 전제하에 미래의 연구 방향도 제시하였다. 그는 저술 및 역경물에 대한 연구의 착수, 용성이 갖는 사회성 및 역사성 추구, 대각교의 정체성 모색, 용성연구의 기획과 주관을 외부 단체와 공동으로 시행, 비교연구 모색, 객관적인 자료집의 발간 등이었다. 이런 내용을 담고 있는 본 고찰은 백용성 연구 및 연구사에 있어서 중요한 대상이 될 것으로 믿어 의심치 않는다. 사상적, 인문학적인 관점에서의 백용성 연구사에 대한 분석은 후일을 기하고자 한다.
This consideration is a paper for prospect of future research and in arranging research result so far about Baekyongsung as called high monk, independent activist and buddhist reformer under the Japanese Empire. There has been for over seventy years since Baekyongsung was past away and forty years for starting research Baekyongsung. But there was no arranged argumental documents synthetically result, introspection, point in dispute and research direction for researching Baekyongsung. Therefore in this consideration I examined trend of initial research and classified catalogue in analyzing established research of Baekyongsung. In classified catalogue, I classified history of his life, Daegakgyo(the Great Enlightenment school), national movement, buddhist reform, buddhist popularization, thought, writings, transmission and succession, and source books and the public books publication. At the same time I presented pertinent papers. We can be understood trend of research for Baekyongsung so far through such contents. And prospect of research for Baekyongsung I presented character which came out until research and point in dispute. The points in dispute are narrow researchers level, paying attention to basic fact confirmation, sight fixed at nationalism and Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, weak for various point of view and leading planning of research by Daegaksasang Research Institute and lack of popularization as result of research etc. I suggested direction for future research under such premise. The consideration kept such contents can be the important object in research for Baekyongsung and history of its research. I would like to promise analyzing history of research for Baekyongsung from humanities' point of view. |
