| Abstract | 본 고찰은 한국 현대불교사에서 중요한 역사성을 갖고 있는 불교정화운동에 대한 연구 성과를 정리한 글이다. 불교정화운동은 1950∼60년대 불교계의 핵심적인 사건, 운동, 이념, 활동이었다. 그리고 정화운동은 1970∼80년대 불교사를 규정짓게 하였고, 94년 종단변혁의 저변이 되었다. 때문에 정화운동에 대한 연구는 중요성, 다면성을 갖는다. 이런 측면에서 정화운동의 연구 성과를 점검하고, 지금까지의 연구 문제점을 성찰하고, 새로운 연구 주제를 도출함은 의미가 있다. 이런 측면에서 본고에서는 정화운동의 연구 성과를 우선적으로 점검하였다. 구체적으로는 정화운동의 이해, 성격, 이념, 배경, 전개, 주역, 계승, 자료집 등으로 살펴보았다. 이런 바탕하에서 정화운동 연구의 성격과 전망을 제시하였다. 필자는 여기에서 정화운동 연구에 관철된 것으로 첫째, 기초·전문성·당위성 연구가 혼재되었음을 둘째, 긍정성이 많았음을 셋째, 객관성 유지가 필요함을 넷째, 고승 중심으로 경도되었음을 다섯째 사례 연구가 요청됨을 지적하였다. 그러면서 추후 이 방면 연구에서 참고할 점으로 첫째, 식민지 불교와 함께 연구할 필요성을 둘째, 정화운동과 종단개혁과의 비교 연구를 셋째, 1980년 10.27법난부터 1994년까지의 과도기에 대한 연구가 중요함을 넷째, 호국불교·민족불교·정화불교·민중불교 등 불교개념에 대한 연구가 필요함을, 다섯째, 국가와 불교와의 상관성에 대한 연구 필요성 등을 역설하였다. 필자의 이 연구가 불교정화, 한국 현대불교사, 종단개혁운동사 등의 연구에 참고가 되길 기대한다.
This dissertation is for the thesis on the result of research for the Purification Campaign of Buddhism which has an important historical meaning in modern Korean Buddhism history. The Purification Campaign of Korean Buddhism was a salient event, campaign, theology, and activity in the Korean Buddhism during 1950~60. And the Purification Campaign regulated the history of Korean Buddhism during 1970~80, it settled the base of the reforming religious order in 1994. So, the research of the Purification Campaign has the importance, various facets. From this aspect, it is meaningful to check the result of research on the Purification Campaign, to reconsider for the problems of researches so far, and to draw a new research subject. With this point, I preferentially examined the result of research on the Purification Campaign in this dissertation. In detailed, I looked over the understanding, characteristic, ideology, background, development, leaders, succession, and source books of the Purification Campaign etc. In such a background, I suggested the characteristic and outlook of the research on the Purification Campaign. I pointed out that, as the related for the research of Purification Campaign here, first, Basic·Professionalism· Appropriateness researches were mixed together, second, there were positive aspects, third, there was a need to keep objectivity, forth, it was leaning to have a focus on the Old Masters, fifth, there was a requirement to have case researches. And also, as the part to have a reference for the research in this field hereafter, I suggested that, first, there be a need to do a research with colony buddhism, second, there be a comparative research with purification campaign and reforming religious order, third, there be a need to do the research for the buddhism concept, Buddhism for the country, ethnic Buddhism, purification Buddhism, and civil Buddhism etc, fifth, there be a need to do a research for the interrelationship with the country and Buddhism. I look forward to seeing that this research I wrote could give some help as a reference for the researches on the Purification of Korean Buddhism, the history of modern Korean Buddhism, and the Campaign history of reforming Korean religious order etc. |
