| Abstract | 백용성 대종사는 근대시기의 고승으로 민족독립과 혁신불교를 실현하기 위해 선농불교를 주창하고 함양의 백운산에 화과원을 세웠다. 이를 통해 노동과 수행을 함께하고 자급자족을 넘어서 상해 임시정부에 독립자금을 보냈다. 여기에서 수많은 저술을 남기고 대각교 운동을 펼쳤다. 본 논의는 화과원에 담긴 백용성의 정신과 가치를 드높이기 위하여, 문화콘텐츠 개발과 활용 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 이를 통해 문화관광과 교육 및 복합적인 활용 방안을 고민하였다. 이러한 논의의 바탕에는 백용성이 남긴 자료와 저술 및 번역서를 발굴, 조사 수집하고, 학술적 체계를 통해 정리한 대각회와 동국대 불교학술원의 협력 사업이 뒷받침되었다. 백용성의 저술과 자료를 우리말로 풀어서 정리하여 총서로 망라한 『백용성 대종사 총서』의 발간과 전산화 사업의 성과가 자리 잡고 있다. 논자는 화과원의 문화콘텐츠 개발을 위한 선결 조건으로 전적의 디지털화, 백용성과 화과원에 대한 복합적인 정보의 구축, 원천자료의 분석과 재가공을 제안하였다. 다음으로 화과원 콘텐츠의 개발을 위한 가치사슬을 첫째, ‘화과원 원천자료 아카이브’ 구축, 둘째, ‘화과원 복원 콘텐츠’의 개발과 셋째, 화과원의 가치를 체험하고, 교육하며 활용할 수 있는 콘텐츠의 활용으로 정리하였다. 화과원 콘텐츠의 활용방안으로 크게 화과원의 지역문화브랜딩의 관점과 문화관광 분야의 활용의 범위와 방향을 논의하였다. 본 논의를 통해 화과원 문화콘텐츠가 지역문화의 대표적 브랜드로 가치가 있으며, 복합적인 활용을 통한 향후 파생 콘텐츠 창출이 가능하다. 아울러 향후 보다 진전된 논의와 공동의 작업을 통해 화과원이 국가사적지로 지정되어 지역브랜드로 자리 잡기를 바란다. 또한 화과원에 담긴 민족독립운동의 산실이라는 역사적 가치와 선농불교와 불교혁신의 수행처라는 종교적인 가치, 나아가 화엄경을 비롯한 다양한 저술과 문학의 산실이라는 복합적 문화공간으로서의 가치에 맞는 문화콘텐츠 개발과 활용이 이루어지기를 기대한다.
Baek Yong-seong(白龍城), the Most Venerable Master, was a high priest during the modern times, advocating Seon-Nong Buddhism(禪農佛敎) for the independence of the people and the reform of Buddhism and established Hwagwawon(華果院) at Mt. Baekwoon in Hamyang. He did both labor and training there and used the income to fulfill self-sufficiency and even send money to the Provisional Government of Korea in Shanghai for the independence fund. In addition, it was Hwagwawon that he wrote many of his books and developed the Daegakgyo(大覺敎) Movement. This study set out to propose the development and planning of cultural Contents for Hwagwawon to enhance his spirit and value inherent in it. Cultural tourism was thus examined along with measures to promote Hwagwawon's educational and complex uses. These discussions were based on the collaborative project between Daegakhoi(大覺會) and the Academy of Buddhist Studies at Dongguk University to identify, examine, and collect writings and translated works by Baek Yong-seong and sort them out according to an academic system. His writings and materials were interpreted and arranged in Korean and put together in a series called A Collection of the Great Master Baek Yong-Seong, whose publication and computerization are part of the project's achievements. The investigator proposed three prerequisites for the development of Hwagwawon's cultural Contents, and they are total digitalization, establishment of complex information about Baek and his Hwagwawon, and analysis and reprocessing of source materials. The value chain for the development of its Contents covered the creation of an “archive of Hwagwawon's source materials,” the development of “Contents for its restoration,” and the utilization of Contents to experience, teach, and use its values. The utilization plans of its Contents were mainly examined from the perspective of branding Hwagwawon and local culture and in the scope and direction of utilizing the cultural tourism sector. The discussion results show that the cultural Contents of Hwagwawon holds value as a representative brand of the local culture and has the potential of creating derivative Contents through its complex utilization in the future. Hwagwawon will hopefully be designated as a National Historic Site and established as a local brand through more advanced discussions and joint operations. The development and utilization of its cultural Contents are expected fit for its historic value as the cradle of the national independence movement, its religious value as the venue of Seon-Nong Buddhism and reform of Buddhism, and its value as complex cultural space to publish various books and literary works including the Avatamska Sutra. |
