| Abstract | 慧菴堂 性觀大宗師(1920∼2001)는 출가자의 본분으로 一種食과 長坐不臥로 치열하게 정진하였다. 또한 산중에 주석하면서도 재가인을 위해 오랫동안 접화활동을 지속하였다. 특히 해인사 원당암에 재가인을 위한 선원인 달마선원을 개설하고, 거기에서 재가인을 매주 둘째 주 토요일 철야정진과 안거의 마지막의 일주일 용맹정진을 직접 지도하였다. 본고에서는 혜암이 달마선원에서 재가인을 위해 설한 <용맹정진 법문>에 나타난 그 접화법의 특징에 대하여 고찰한 것이다. 혜암의 법어집 『집주 혜암대종사대중법어집 2 공부하다 죽어라』에는 15개의 「용맹정진 법문」이 수록되어 있다. 내용을 살펴보면 올바른 안목을 갖추어야 할 것, 화두공부로 정진할 것, 본성의 자각 내지 깨침을 추구하라는 것으로 요약된다. 이러한 가르침은 혜암이 게송을 곁들여서 재가인에게 강조했던 여러 가지 공안에 잘 드러나 있다. 그들 가운데 석공혜장의 활 쏘는 공안, 염관제안의 무소뿔 부채, 청림사건의 대사일번, 청봉전초의 생사일대사, 대주혜해의 自家寶藏, 백암의 道 등의 공안을 간추려 혜암이 지도하고 있는 가르침의 면모를 고찰한 것이다. 혜암은 출가자만이 아니라 재가인에 대해서도 따로 구별을 두지 않았다. 특히 용맹정진에 임하는 상황에서는 출가와 재가가 따로 없고 오로지 화두의 참구에 매진해야 할 것을 강조하였다. 이것은 혜암이 보여준 재가인을 위한 접화법의 특징이 잘 드러나 있다. 수행에는 출가 및 재가가 없이 단지 生事一大事를 해결하기 위한 자세로서 대사일번의 각오가 되지 않으면 안 된다는 점을 보여주었다.
Hyeam zen-master was a monk who was devoted to take one meal alone a day(一種食) and to perform it only with a straight seat, never lying down(長坐不臥). He also lived in the mountains and continued his edification for a long time for secular people. He opened Dalmasonwon for the secular in Wondangam, Haeinsa temple, where he devoted himself to the secular all night on the second Saturday of each week. This study examined the characteristics of the edification method in Yongmaengjungjin-sermon, a preaching book of Hyeam zen-master. This Yongmaengjungjin-sermon is included in . Yongmaengjungjin-sermon consists of 15 sermons. Summary of several topics are to have the right eye, devote yourself to studying Hwadu, to be aware of nature and to pursue enlightenment. Such teachings are well revealed in various anecdotes that Hyeam zen-master emphasized to secular people with verse poetry. Among them, Suckgonghyejang's bow-shooting anecdote, Yeoumgwanjean's no-short fan anecdote, Chunglimsagun's rebirth anecdote, Chungbongjuncho's the matter of birth and death is essential to one, and Backam's enlightenment anecdote were chosen to select Hyeam zen-master. The aspect of zen-master was examined. Hyeam zen-master did not discriminate against secular people as well as monks. Especially, in the performance of the bravery, there is no monk and secular person, and it emphasizes that only Hwadu should work hard. This figure belongs to the characteristic of the edification method shown by Hyeam zen-master. The practice method showed that monks and secular people should be prepared for the rebirth in a posture to solve the matter of birth and death is essential to one. |
