| Abstract | 이 글은 나가르주나의 공(Sunyata)과 빔머의 폴리록(Polylog)을 중심으로 한 중관철학과 상호문화철학의 만남을 시도한다. 중관철학과 상호문화철학의 만남 가능성은 상호문화철학의 중심 개념들이 서구의 전통적인 개념틀을 벗어나는, 불교적 중도 개념에 근접해 있다는 사실에 있다. 문화들 사이의 상호의존과 영향관계를 나타내는 상호문화성은 고정된 정태적인 문화 개념에 의해서는 성립 불가능하다. 상호문화성은 문화가 작동되는 장소와 결부된 맥락적이고 유동적인 문화 개념을 바탕으로 해서만 가능하다. 뿐만 아니라 상호문화적 대화를 가능하게 하는 중첩(겹침, Uberlappung)의 개념 또한 고정된 개념적 동일성과 차이에 대한 규명과는 거리가 멀다. 중첩은 서로 다른 문화들 사이를 연결하는 유비적 개념이다. 중관철학의 공의 언어는 이러한 전통적인 서구의 사유 틀을 벗어나는 상호문화철학의 개념들을 이해하는 데 도움이 된다. 폴리록은 빔머의 상호문화철학적 사유를 상징하는 개념이다. 빔머의 기획에서 폴리록은, 한편으로는 모든 문화전통들이 동등성으로 참여하는 새로운 세계철학사 다시 쓰기라는 목표에 도달하기 위한 방법이면서, 다른 한편으로는 모든 문화들의 폴리포니(Polyphonie)로 이끄는 규제적 이념이기도 하다. 빔머는 폴리록에 의지하여 동등한 문화들의 만남을 위한 선행적인 조건으로서 모든 중심주의를 비판하는데, 그 비판의 이면은 역사적으로 유럽중심주의에 의해서 제외되었거나 폄하되었던 전통들을 복원하여 문화들의 폴리포니로 이끄는 과정이기도 하다. 즉 빔머의 기획은 중심주의 비판과 폴리록으로 요약될 수 있고, 이는 나가르주나의 자성론에 대한 비판과 연기의 드러냄이라는 공의 이중적인 사용과 유비된다. 이러한 공과 폴리록 사이의 유비를 통해서 동서의 서로 다른 문화들 사이의 대화 가능성 및 비서구의 불교철학에 의한 서구 읽기의 가능성을 확인하고자 한다.
This paper deals with the encounter between Buddhism and intercultural philosophy focusing on the emptiness(Sunyata) of Nagarjuna and the polylogue(Polylog) of F. M. Wimmer. The possibility of the encounter Buddhism and intercultural philosophy lies in that the central concepts of intercultural philosophy approach to the middle-way(中道, Madhyama Pratipad) that is different from the typical Western thought tradition. Interculturality, which represents interdependence and influence relation between cultures can not be established by the fixed static cultural concepts. Interculturality can be established only on the basis of the contextual and fluid cultural concepts associated with the place where culture operates. Furthermore, the concept of overlapping(Uberlappung) that enables intercultural dialogue is also different from identifying the fixed conceptual identities and differences. The concept of overlapping is simultaneously such an analogical concept that connects among the different cultures. The terminology of the emptiness(Sunyata) in Buddhism will helpful in comprehending the concept of intercultural philosophy thsat repudiate the traditional thinking structure of the West. Polylogue(Polylog) is the concept symbolizing the intercultural philosophical thought of F. M. Wimmer. According to Wimmer`s thought, on the one hand, Polylogue(Polylog) is a method to reach the goal of rewriting the new world philosophy history in which all cultural traditions are equivalently involved, while on the other hand, is also a regulatory idea leading to the polyphony of all cultures. F. M. Wimmer criticizes All kinds of centralism for the precondition of the encounters of equal cultures from the perspective of polylogue(Polylog). The other side of that criticism is the identical process leading to the cultural polyphony through the restoration of traditions that had been historically excluded or devalued by Euro-centrism. In conclusion, the thought of F. M. Wimmer can be summarized as the critique of centralism and polylogue(Polylog), it can be analogous to the complex usage of the emptiness(Sunyata) which is critique of substantive language and the exposing the theory of causality(緣起, Pratitya Samutpada). By observing such an analogy between the emptiness(Sunyata) and polylogue(Polylog), I want to verify if there is a possibility of dialogue among the different cultures between the East and West and the possibility of Western reading by non-Western Buddhist philosophy. |
