Abstract이 논문은 유식사상사에서 초기 유식사상 가운데 가장 대표적인 삼성설이 형성되고 변천되는 과정을 이제와 삼성의 구조적 관계와 그 변화양상에 주 목하여 살펴봄으로써 유식사상의 중심구조에 대한 심층적 이해를 도모한 것 이다. 이를 위해 먼저 『유가사지론』 「본지분」에 속하는 『보살지』 「진실의품」의 ‘vastu’의 사상체계에 제시되는 진리관의 특징을 분석한 후, 유식학파의 이제 설로부터 삼성설이 형성되어 구조적으로 변천되는 과정을 초기 유가행파의 주요 텍스트 및 교설의 성립사를 고려하여 비판적으로 검토하였다. 특히 『중변분별론』의 삼성설은 허망분별로서의 알라야식을 사상적 기반 으로 하여 삼성을 설정하고, 그 토대위에 여러 교설체계를 이론적·실천적 측면에서 통합하고 있는 점에서 유식학파의 주요교설들이 변천해 가는 과정 을 과도기적으로 가장 극명하게 드러낸다 따라서 이 논문은 최초기의 논서인 『유가사지론』에서 중기의 『중변분별론』을 거쳐 중·후기의 『섭대승론』 『유식삼십론』에 이르기까지 텍스트의 상 호 영향관계를 고려하여, 삼성 가운데 의타기성이 알라야식으로 확립된 이후 그것이 세친에 의해 ‘식전변’으로 체계화되는 변천양상을 사상사적으로 면밀 히 고찰하였다. 결론적으로 이 논문은 유식사상사에서 삼성설을 사상적 기반으로 유식학 파의 주요 교설들이 이론적으로 결합되거나 통합되어, 특히 삼성과 알라야식 설의 결합관계를 중심축으로 유식사상이 이론적·실천적으로 체계화 되는 과정과 그 구조적인 의의를 사상사적으로 해명한 것이다.

This paper aims at understanding in depth the establishment and changes of the doctrine of three natures, which can be considered the core of the Vijnaptimatra thought, by contemplating the structural relationship between the two truths and the three natures and the modes of their transformation. First of all, the view of truth is analyzed to disclose the features presented in the theoretical system of “vastu” in the Bodhisattvabhumi’s “Tattvartha” chapter, which again belongs to the Yogacara-bhumi’s “Mauli bhumi” chapter. This paper then critically examines the process in which the doctrine of three natures was established on the basis of the doctrine of two truths and also traces the courses in which the former doctrine underwent transformation. In order to conduct the research, I take into account the important Yogacara texts belonging to the early period and the doctrinal history. Especially, it is revealed that the doctrine of three natures as presented in the Madhyantavibhaga was based on the alayavijnana, which was understood as abhutaparikalpa. This doctrine also integrates other diverse doctrines at both theoretical and practical levels. Thus, the doctrine of three natures in the Madhyantavibhaga clearly demonstrates the process in which the main theories of vijnaptimatra had been changing in the transitional period. Therefore, this paper can be said to present in detail the modes in which Vasubandhu’s concept of vijnana-parinama underwent transformation. Considering the textual relationship between the Yogacara-bhumi (earliest Yogacara treatise), the Madhyantavibhaga (representative Yogacara treatises in the middle period), and the Mahayana-samgraha and Trimsikavijnaptimatrasiddhi (treatises in the later period), it is known that paratantra-svabhava in the three natures was first identified as alayavijnana and later systematized into the theory of vijnana-parinama. In conclusion, this paper proves that the main theories of the Yogacara school were combined or integrated theoretically one another on the basis of the doctrine of three natures. Especially, it clarifies the process in which the Yogacara thought was systematized at both theoretical and practical levels, as well as the significance of such changes, from the perspective of history of thought by focusing on the manner in which the theory of three natures and that of alayavijnana were combined .
