| Abstract | 본 논문은 니야야 학파와 상키야 학파에서 지지되던 감관도달설을 둘러싼 일련의 논쟁들을 다룬다. 니야야 학파는 눈으로부터 빛이 뻗어나가서 사물에 접촉할 때, 대상에 대한 인식이 발생한다고 생각했다. 이에 대하여 다양한 학파에서 찬반 논란이 이어졌다. 감관도달설에 관한 논의는 다양한 문헌에서 다루고 있지만, 모든 논쟁들은 학파를 불문하고 다음의 두 가지를 전제로 한다. (1) 눈이 대상을 시각적으로 인식하는 도구다, (2) 눈이 밖으로 뻗어나가는 것이 일상적으로는 지각되지 않는다. 이와 같이 제한된 범위에서 논쟁이 진행되지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 여러 논사들에 의해 논의의 다양한 변주가 이루어졌다. 논의들은 크게 두 가지 패턴으로 분류된다. 첫 번째는 일상적으로 대상을 인식의 상황에 어떤 조작을 가하고, 그것이 일반적 인식과 어떤 차이가 있는지를 비교ㆍ검토하는 패턴이다. 두 번째는 내성(內省)을 통해서 관찰ㆍ발견된 내용을 토대로 신체 밖에서 일어나는 사정을 추측하는 패턴이다. 감관도달설에 관한 여러가지 논의들은 인도인들이 관찰의 결과로 획득되는 일상적 현상들에 대한 발견이 이론적 입장에 따라서 해석의 차이를 생성하고, 그 해석을 어떤 방식으로 논쟁에 적용시키는지에 관한 사례들을 제공한다.
This paper is intended as an investigation of eye-beam(raśmi) theory in early Nyāya and Sāṃkhya. A considerable number of studies have been made on Nyāya theory of perception. However, the study of eye-beam has been strangely neglected by Indologists. Surprisingly few studies have so far been made at the prāpyakārin (attainment of sense organs) that form the basis of eye-beam. The aim of this paper is to investigate the prāpyakārin and arguments for it. Chapter I attempts to illustrate a gap between ancient and contemporary concept of mind with special emphasis on the difference between located inside and outside human body in the perception process. Chapter II and III analyze several cases of doctrinal arguments for the prāpyakārin. The arguments fall into two patterns. Chapter IV consider philosophical meaning of prāpyakāin presented in the chapter II and III. |
