| Abstract | 본 논문은 대의(⼤醫)로 평가받는 손사막(孫思邈)의 대표작인 『비급천금요방(備急千⾦要⽅)』, 「대의정성」에 나타난 의료윤리를 불교 사상의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 손사막에 따르면 의사란 모름지기 인간의 몸뿐만이 아니라 우주의 원리에 통달해야 하며, 이를 바탕으로 환자의 진찰과 치료를 정밀하게 해야 한다. 환자를 대하는 의사의 마음가짐에 대한 내용은 특히 주목할 만한데, 환자를 자비심으로 대해야 하며, 그의 아픔에 깊이 공감해 몸가짐과 마음가짐을 삼가야 함을 말한다. 또한 인간의 생명만이 아닌 생명 그 자체를 존중해야 함을 말하며 동물성 약재의 사용을 삼가야 한다고 했는데, 이러한 그의 윤리관은 의료의 목적이나 그 실천의 전 과정에서 중시되는 가치관의 측면에서 불교사상과 일맥상통한다.
This paper investigates Sun Simiao's medical ethics, as written in the Dayijingcheng of the Beijiqianjinyaofang (Qianjinyaofang) from a Buddhist perspective. According to Sun Simiao, the doctor is a master of not only the human body, but also of the basic principles of the universe, upon which a patient can be diagnosed and treated with accuracy. Among his writings, the doctor’s attitude toward patients is noteworthy; he declares that the doctor should treat patients with benevolence and deep empathy, manifested in an austere attitude and conduct. He also declares that all life should be respected. Non-human lives should not be sacrificed to save human lives without thorough consideration. Sun Simiao's thoughts on the aims of medicine and important values that must be respected in the process of medical practice are highly relevant to those of Buddhism. |
