| Abstract | 본 논문은 백제 혜균(慧均)의 변증법적 논리와 신라 원효(元曉)의 화쟁·회통의 논리 구조에 유사성이 있음을 밝히는 시론적 고찰이다. 두 인물은 지리적으로 매우 인접하고 시기적으로 상당히 가깝기 때문에, 원효는 혜균의 『대승사론현의기』를 접했을 것으로 추정된다. 혜균은 소밀(疏密)과 횡수(橫竪)라는 두 시선의 교차를 통해, 현실에서 대립적으로 나타난 자타(自他)가 변증법적으로 융합해야만 비로소 궁극적인 초월, 즉 해탈이 가능하다는 메시지를 던진다. 한편, 원효는 이러한 두 가지 대립되는 학설을 화쟁시키는 방법을 통해 진리에 한 걸음 더 다가설 수 있다고 보았는데, 그것은 두 가지 다른 법의 상호 소통과 융합을 통해 궁극적 진리에 도달하는 혜균의 변증법적 논리와 유사하다. 또한, 이제가 양변을 완전히 부정하여 완전한 평등과 무차별을 실현한 절대경지인 원효의 무이중도에서도 혜균의 변증법적 논리 구조가 보인다. 혜균의 변증법적 사유체계는 화쟁·회통의 논리적 토대를 제공하였으며, 따라서 당시 원효가 길장만이 아니라 백제 혜균을 통해 삼론학을 흡수했을 가능성도 보인다.
This paper is a preliminary study to reveal similarities between the dialectical logic of Baekje Hyegyun(慧均) and the logical structure of Hwajaeng of Silla Wonhyo(元曉). Since these two figures were quite close in time and space, we can easily assume that Wonhyo had encountered Daeseungsalonhyun'uigi written by Hyegyun. To be more specific, Hyegyun insisted the ultimate transcendence was possible only when the oppositional manifestations of the reality were fused dialectically. Wonhyo thought one could go one step closer to the ultimate truth through the method of harmonizing two conflicting theories. It is similar to Hyegyun's dialectical logic reaching the ultimate truth. In addition, the dialectical logical structure of Hyegyun can also be seen in Wonhyo's Middle Way of Non-duality, which is the absolute state that completely negates both sides and realizes the equality of the two truths. In conclusion, Hyegyun's dialectical thoughts provided a logical foundation for Wonhyo's Hwajaeng, therefore, it is possible that Wonhyo absorbed the thoughts of Sanlun School not only through Jizang but also through Baekje Hyegyun. |
