Abstract《鶴林碑》撰寫于大歷三年的可能性最大,從文內對牛頭法系的表述來看,《鶴林碑》寫于《故左溪大師碑》之前是可以肯定的。法欽與玄素之間最初的機緣時間不長,至于在玄素生前,法欽是否重回鶴林寺,文獻未曾記載。李華寫作塔銘碑志是嚴謹的,因為嚴謹,所以他在寫《鶴林碑》時未直接將法欽列為玄素排名第一的大弟子。李華撰寫《鶴林碑》,法欽未曾參與,而是由仍然在鶴林寺中的法海以及法鏡的俗家弟子楊詣出面,迨至他撰寫《故左溪大師碑》時,法欽從玄素門下弟子中脫穎而出,《故左溪大師碑》中才明確地寫入一句"今徑山禪師承其后也",從而形成牛頭禪系的徑山"七祖說"。
