Abstract天臺《小止觀》現在中國通稱《童蒙止觀》,而在日本流行20世紀50年代發現的《略明開蒙初學坐禪止觀要門》寫本。該寫本有“天臺山顗禪師説”“斉國沙門凈弁私記”的題記,日本學術界因此否定了該書由智顗爲俗兄親撰的傳統説法。但是該書有兩個傳承系統,一是刻于北宋的元照系《小止觀》,附有元照序,即通行本《童蒙止觀》;一是凈辨系《小止觀》,以寫本形態流傳,題有“凈弁私記”。新發現的寫本并不是《小止觀》的最早形態,宗密《圓覺經道場修證儀》所引用的《小止觀》,應是更早的廣本。依據“六氣治病法”的歷史演變,通行本《童蒙止觀》所講的六氣治病法并不符合智顗時代的中國醫學,最晚在北宋刊刻時已經精心的改編。改編本吸收了《起信論》內容,并被升格爲《摩訶止觀》的節本,成爲跨宗派的佛教經典。
