Abstract在印度部派佛教中,說一切有部毗婆沙師、經量部等反對將"緣起"列為"無為法",而他們理解的"無為法"并不具有本體論的意義;而大眾部等則依據《雜阿含經》中的《緣經》,認為"緣起"與"涅槃"并屬為"無為法",且"無為法"是"有為法"構成的經驗世界之基礎。這也使得"法性""如"等與"緣起"有關的概念,及"實際"等與"涅槃"有關的概念,逐漸具有了本體論的意義。《小品般若經》中"緣起"被重新理解為"空性",但只是消極意義的"無自性";而由《小品般若經》擴充而來的《大品般若經》中則出現了與大眾部等相似的"無為法"之分類,相應地,代表"空性"的"如""法性""實際"等概念在《大智度論》里被看作"實相"。后來,這些概念逐漸發展為大乘佛教中的本體論范疇。
