| Abstract | Louis de La Vallée Poussin (1869–1938) was a Belgian scholar who specialised in studies of Buddhism and the Indian subcontinent. Originally published in 1917, this volume contains the substance of the Hibbert Lectures for 1916, which were delivered by La Vallée Poussin at Manchester College, Oxford.
