Abstract幽溪傳燈大師(1554-1628)被譽為明末的天台中興教主,撰有《淨土生無生論》,融會天台宗三觀之旨,以闡揚淨土法門。此論僅四千七百多字,卻含藏 諸多思想,例如融會天台、華嚴、楞嚴與淨土等思想。是以華嚴十門為架構,嫁 接天台「性具」思想,運用「一念心」的理趣來含攝其餘九門,發揚淨土念佛法 門。本文主要闡述生即無生、無生即生的道理,進而表明往生性中所具之極樂。
Master Yoxi Chuandeng (1554-1628), known as the Prime Leader of Tiantai sect in late Ming dynasty. His writing, “Treaty on To be Born and Not to be Born in the Pure Land” with only four thousand and seven hundred words, yet entails multiple concepts of Buddhist doctrines in it. It integrates the principle of “Simultaneous Vision of Past, Present, and Future” of Tiantai sect, compounds the conceptual ideas of Tiantai, Huayan, Shurangama and Pure Land; and with the ultimate goal of preaching Pure Land dharma. Structurally, his writing, supported by the theoretical framework of Huayan doctrine ten mysterious gates, grafting onto the thought of “Buddha-Nature includes both good and evils” of Tiantai plus the application of “a thought-moment”, the doctrines of nine mysterious gates are thereof captured. All in all, as to aim the furthest goal of preaching Pure Land dharma and chanting Buddha’s name.
This article mainly discusses the idea of “Not to be Born is to be Born, and To be Born is in fact Not to be Born” and further extends that the true meaning of being born is to be born to the Ultimate Bliss already possessed in the nature of all living beings.
