| 抄録 | The purpose of this thesis is to study astrology and the law of Karma as believed and practiced in daily life by present Thai Buddhists. The thesis is divided into three parts :
1. The study of Thai beliefs and the beliefs of Buddhism.
2. The study of history and development of astrology as appeared in the Buddhist texts relating to stars, Philosophy, Psychology as well as the utility of astrology.
3. The study of Karma in Buddhist texts, powers and influences of Karma and astrology on human life as well as ceremonial practices derived from astrological beliefs in Thai Buddhist society.
It is found in the research that Thai Buddhists at present believe in both astrology and the Law of Karma. While on the one hand they affirm that good deeds bring results and bad deeds bring bad results, they on the other hand take astrological advice as a guide for making possible decision before embarking on necessary activities. |
