抄録 | This short article gives an account of the modern Shan Buddhist monastic education system, previously an unexplored area. Under the pressure to develop along the line of its Burmese counterpart, with the narrowly defined, government-sponsored written examination-based education system, the Shan monastic education system turns away from its century-old literary heritage, lik-laung, and it has yet to be officially recognised by the state in its existence of half a century. |
