抄録 | The Japanese summer festivals of mushi-okuri,or Dispatching the Bugs, and O-Bon,the spirit festival, share many features although they are usually separated in theological analysis as respectively Shinto and Buddhist festivals. The two festivals reflect a common underlying cosmology which is concerned with maintaining boundaries and regulating exchanges between the human and spirit worlds. The beliefs and practices introduced through Buddhism added to the ritual repertoire, but were overlaid on existing structural elements. |
