抄録 | Punya means spiritual merit a person earns in future by doing a good Karma or moral act; dana means a gift or donation. Dana is a source of merit. Punyadana therefore means beneficial transference or relinquishment of the merit of a moral act, that is likely to accrue,to another person of one's choice for his benefit either to multiply the transferor's merit potential or in fulfillment of one's commitment to total renunciation. This concept is quite popular in Hinduism and Buddhism. But this concept seriously compromises the doctrine of Karma according to which a person is personally and inescapably responsible for the acts done by him. It is a fictional concept as according to the doctrine of Karma, the time and form of maturation of Karmas (Karma Vipaka) is unknown, adrsta:no one knows when and how the Karmas fructify. Hence punydana is like a transfer transaction in futures of uncertain time of maturity as well as of yield. |
