抄録 | A pictoral record of two Nyingma ("ancient") ceremonies, and ceremonies of the three Sarma ("new") schools. From the chapter "kLong-chen-pa (Longchenpa) Parinirvana": This year, the lamas and monks who gathered at the Monlam Chenmo
had the opportunity to extend this time of solemn prayer by joining in the Great kLong-chen-pa Sadhana at Sarnath. The year
1995 marked the 631st anniversary of the Parinirvana of this unsurpassed master (1308 - 1364), who compiled the Ya-bzhi and
composed more than 200 works, including the remarkable collection known as the mDzod bdun, or Seven Treasures. Tarthang
Tulku describes these ceremonies in Tibet as follows. "When I was a young man studying the Dharma in Tibet, I was fortunate
enough to receive teachings from the famed master A-gyur Rinpoche. Each year when the time came for the kLong-chen-pa
sadhana, A-gyur Rinpoche would celebrate it extensively, in honor of his father, the great A-dzom 'Brug-pa. For 3 weeks, all
other activity would cease while three hundred lamas prepared for and participated in the sadhana. A famous aspect of these
annual ceremonies was the torma, or ritual butter offerings, that the monks would prepare. The sadhana took place in
February, at a time when it was bitterly cold, yet the torma, which were unusually large, gave off a special kind of nectar.
Each year this nectar was collected and used for healing and other purposes. Many miracles were attributed to it. Having
received such an introduction, I have always considered the time of kLong-chen-pa's Parinirvana deeply auspicious. Thirty
years ago, a few years after arriving in India, I resolved to honor this sacred time at Sarnath, and traveled there together
with a few Dharma brothers - Khenpo Thubten Mewa, Sangye Lama, Tsongdru, and the brother of my teacher Bod-pa Tulku.
Together we pitched a small tent and practiced there for several days. Those days of practice have always stayed with me. It
was truly wonderful to be able to return this year to renew practice of the kLong-chen-pa sadhana under such positive
circumstances. |
