抄録 | This article considers two areas of scholarship in concert with Nietzsche's view of the person. it first underscores the positive side of nihilism as understood in the Buddhist philosophical tradition by critically examining the work of the modern Japanese philosopher Keigi Nishitani. Secondly,it develops an argument explaining why the negative side of nihilism (denial of meaning, value, and truth) is unconvincing for persons involved in cross-cultural studies. The article concludes (with reference to Deltida and Nargarjuna) that while nihilism presupposes a context against which its import is meaningful, the agenda "beneath nihilism" reveals the phenomenological foundations of meaning that lead to recognizing the diversity of culturally dependent "rationales" that inevitably acquire meaning within the culturally dependent "contexts". |
